2026 Mascletàs Schedule: when and where to see every show in Alicante
There are many ways to explain what a mascletà is.
You can talk about gunpowder. About decibels. About tradition.
But the truth is, until you are standing in the Plaza de los Luceros and feel the ground shaking beneath your feet, you don't fully understand why thousands of people gather every day to experience it.
Because you don't just listen to a mascletà.
You feel it.
And during the Hogueras de Alicante 2026, it will once again be one of the most anticipated events of the festival.
When are the mascletàs during the Alicante Hogueras 2026?
The mascletàs are traditionally held every day at the Plaza de los Luceros during the main period of the Hogueras.
Although the final pyrotechnics schedule is officially confirmed weeks before the festival, the event usually takes place at the exact same time every day.
If you visit Alicante during these days, chances are you'll end up planning part of your day around the mascletà.
And it makes sense.
It’s one of those events that sets the rhythm of the festival.
Mascletà Schedule at Plaza de los Luceros
The mascletà usually starts sharply at 2:00 PM (14:00) at the Plaza de los Luceros.
However, festival veterans know that arriving at 1:55 PM is not the best idea.
As the time approaches, thousands of people fill the surrounding streets looking for a good spot to enjoy the show.
If you want to watch it comfortably, we highly recommend arriving well in advance, especially during the core days of the Hogueras.

Which pyrotechnics shoot the mascletàs?
Every year, some of the most renowned pyrotechnics from the Valencian Community and the rest of Spain take part in the event.
For many fans, not all mascletàs are the same:
- Some follow specific companies because they are looking for more raw power.
- Others prefer more technical rhythm and shots.
- And some enjoy comparing styles the same way people talk about football teams.
The truth is that each pyrotechnic company brings its own personality to the show.
That’s why many locals try to attend several mascletàs during the festival.
The first time you see a mascletà
Something funny usually happens.
Visitors arrive thinking they are going to witness a few minutes of daytime visual fireworks. And then they discover that it has nothing to do with that.
First, you hear the initial shots.
Then, the rhythm begins to accelerate.
The square holds a kind of collective tension.
And when the famous final earthquake (terremoto) arrives, you understand why so many people talk about the mascletà as an experience rather than a show.
It is one of those moments that Alicante remembers all year round.
Where to stand to watch the mascletà
The Plaza de los Luceros is the epicenter of the firing, but there are several areas from which to enjoy it.
Some people prefer to stand right next to the square to feel the full intensity. Others opt for nearby streets, which offer different perspectives:
- Avenida Alfonso X El Sabio.
- Avenida de la Estación.
- Rambla de Méndez Núñez.
- Plaza Calvo Sotelo.
- Calle Federico Soto.
The important thing is to arrive early and keep in mind that access becomes increasingly difficult as the start time approaches.
Tips if you are watching a mascletà with kids
Although many children absolutely love mascletàs, it’s a good idea to be prepared. Some useful recommendations:
- Use hearing protection (noise-canceling earmuffs) for toddlers and young children.
- Arrive early to avoid large crowds.
- Bring water, especially on the hottest days.
- Keep some distance if it’s their first time hearing a mascletà.
- Explain beforehand what they are going to hear to prevent them from getting scared.
Many kids end up fascinated. Others need a couple of days to get used to it.
Both reactions are completely normal.
More than gunpowder: a tradition that defines Alicante
During the Hogueras there are spectacular monuments, music, parades, street parties (barracas), and hundreds of activities.
But if you ask many locals which event best represents the essence of the festival, the answer is usually the same: The mascletà.
Because for a few minutes, the whole city seems to stop.
- Shop owners step out the door.
- Visitors hold up their phones.
- Locals find their favorite corner.
And when the final shot fires, Alicante remembers once again why gunpowder is part of its identity.
